Position Summary: The Visual Design Strategist I works collaboratively to develop and implement specific strategies for the Universitys main website and social media sites, key University initiatives and many departments and offices across our campus. He/She plays an integral role in the development of messaging for these entities and oversees the effective application of structural, informational, visual and interactive articulation across mediums: Web, print, multimedia and social media. He/she interacts with and guides key stakeholders to ensure the needs of University communications projects are met. He/she is an effective communicator, collaborator and ambassador for University values and goals.

Job Requirements

The employee must be a highly analytical thinker with prior project management experience. He/She must be collaborative and an effective communicator; possess a strong customer service orientation, be able to think creatively and strategically; and have a track record of providing effective strategic communication solutions for a diverse community and within a changing environment. A Bachelors degree, or equivalent professional experience, is required for this position. Experience in visual design including aspects ranging from typography to logo development and color theory, and ability to apply in all mediums. The Visual Design Strategist must be detail-oriented with great writing skills. He/She must be able to multitask, must be able to work with creative teams and must be able to work well with diverse colleagues and audiences. Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex initiatives and projects serving various customers with available resources; ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities. He/She must be a collaborative, customer-service oriented person with problem solving skills and the ability to conceptualize projects and complete them on budget and on time. Strong analytical and problem solving skills and a track record in developing innovative solutions. Great written/oral/interpersonal communication skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information and material in a discretionary manner. Must gain the knowledge of and demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of Princeton and higher education, as well as the goals and guiding principles of the Office of Communications. He/She must demonstrate knowledge of image and layout manipulation programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. He/She must also be familiar with video editing software. Some knowledge of printing processes such as offset and digital printing technologies. He/She must be able to work in MAC and PC environments; must be familiar with or willing to learn the applications for, as well as the possibilities and limitations of, various Web languages such as PHP, SQL, HTML (5), XHTML, XML, XSL, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX and ActionScript/Flash; Drupal and/or Roxen CMS; must be familiar with or willing to learn user experience strategy and design skills including expertise in information architecture and content strategy. Applicants must have a minimum of one to three years of professional experience in visual design communication within an academic, nonprofit, corporate or consulting setting. Experience learned while in school can be applicable to this position.The final candidate for the position must successfully complete a background check.
