SUMMARY:

 A Process Operator operates manufacturing equipment, and performs all necessary operations pertaining to production under direction of a supervisor or manager.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  


  • Performs duties necessary to operate a variety of production equipment such as extractors, blenders, stills, filters, centrifuges, mills, pumps, and compressors.  He/she must understand the operating mechanism of this equipment in order to detect faulty performance and frequently check the performance by simple tests.  The work may be varied and complex, making it necessary for the operator to be shifted from one job to another and be able to operate a number of pieces of equipment, processes, or reactions simultaneously.
  • Must be familiar with a number of processes to such a degree as being able to carry out a process involving several separate operations, with only the supervisor’s instructions.  In connection with these processes, he/she must be familiar, by name and form, with a large number of botanical materials.  He/she understands the hazards involved in handling and processing these materials in a sanitary manner, and knows the methods used to prevent contamination.
  • Must be able to obtain and interpret information shown by instruments, such as temperature, pressure, vacuum or flow indicators, recorders or controllers and make corrective adjustments as required on equipment, based upon information obtained.A Process Operator must maintain process documentation showing materials used and produced and pertinent operating information such as pressure, temperature, and vacuum.  The irregularities should be recorded on the job ticket and promptly reported to the supervisor.
  • Performs simple analytical tests such as Density, pH and Brix, and performs the necessary tests for CIP operations.  He/she determines disposition of materials based on results of the tests.  He/she obtains samples from batches or containers, often of varying sizes, and submits the samples to the supervisor or the laboratory.A Process Operator must obtain, inspect, fill, empty and label various containers as required by different processing operations.A Process Operator maintains the facility in a neat, clean, and sanitary manner, and will sweep, mop, or otherwise clean the processing areas as necessary.
  • Must adhere to all environmental, safety, and health regulations, general plant practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices that pertain to his/her specific operation. 

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

A Process Operator will normally have a minimum of a High School Diploma, or a GED, and must be able to read and write legibly, and communicate in English.  He/she must be able to perform simple arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and must be able to follow verbal and written instructions from the supervisor. Prior experience in a chemical plant is not a requirement but preference is given to individuals with prior processing experience. 

A Process Operator must be capable of understanding the overall process flow path, and grasp the concepts of sanitary processing.    Advancement to this position is normally attained in one year of continuous service at Teawolf, following an evaluation of the employee’s performance.  This evaluation is done by the direct supervisor of the employee, and process management.  

All newly hired or newly assigned employees working as Process Operators, regardless of previous experience, will initially work side-by-side with an experienced Process Operator until he/she, in the opinion of the direct supervisor, is able to work safely and proficiently alone.
