Job Title: HR Manager, Payroll and Benefits
Job Summary:
Northfield Bank is seeking an experienced HR Manager focused on the disciplines of Payroll and Benefits, specifically ADP Payroll and HRB. Through successful leadership, they will manage the day-to-day Payroll and Benefits operations, serving the 325+ Northfield associates located throughout NJ, Staten Island and Brooklyn.
The HR Manager, Payroll and Benefits is a full-time, exempt position and reports directly to the Director of Human Resources.
Job Requirements
Essential Responsibilities:
Payroll:
- Responsible for the management, coaching and development of the Payroll Specialist
- Responsible for the overall accuracy and timeliness of producing over 8,000 pay disbursements annually, resulting in over $12M in compensation
- Ensures that the Banks payroll and benefit process(s) meet all audit, legal, compliance and regulatory tests
- Responsible for the successful mitigation of payroll issues and problems in line with regulatory constraints, company policy and the needs of the associates
- Development and production of effective payroll reporting and metrics
- Ensures the HRIS system is accurate, secure, maintained and audited
- Ensure compliance with all data privacy laws and regulations
- Manages and maintains positive relationships with vendors and service providers
- Effective management of special payroll runs including annual bonus, stock and supplemental payrolls
- Strong focus on continuous improvement and strategic planning for the future
- Ensure a high quality outcome and positive service offering for the managers and associates
- Remain up-to-date on new developments in payroll and related legislation; advise Management on needed actions
- Track vacation accruals and payroll deductions for time reporting
Benefits:
- Responsible for the management, coaching and development of the Benefits Specialist
- Responsible for overseeing the administration of all group health insurance plans company-wide in NJ and NY, including Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, Life and various supplemental benefits
- Ensure proper enrollment of all new employees to group health insurance plans, and oversee annual open enrollment process
- Serve as a point of contact for all employees and liaison with benefit providers to assist with and/or resolve any benefits questions or to assist with resolving claims, enrollment or eligibility issues
- Process benefit changes in a timely and compliant manner
- Manage all reporting requirements for healthcare benefits, 401(k), and Workers Compensation
- Manage all aspects of NJ and NY Leave(s) of Absence including FMLA, Short-Term disability, Workers Compensation & Personal Leaves of Absence to ensure compliance and minimize exposure
- Provide educational resources to employees regarding all offered benefits
- Oversee employee changes and terminations in HR/Payroll system as well as the insurance companies online systems
- Compliance: Secure and maintain all regulatory postings
Education / Certifications:
- Bachelors degree in Business Administration, HR or Information Systems is preferred
- PHR is a plus
- Certified ADP Payroll Specialist is a plus
Qualifications:
- 8 - 10 years of overall ADP Payroll experience
- 3 – 5 years of Human Resources experience
- 3 – 5 years of People Management
- Thorough knowledge of ADP payroll including processes, laws, taxation and financials with developed accounting and analytical abilities
- Knowledge of HR Administration policies and procedures
- Service orientation to meet the needs of the associates, managers and business of the bank
- Experience meeting financial requirements while delivering client satisfaction
- Strategic thinker with the ability to focus on continuous improvement and future needs of the organization
- Technical understanding of HR and Payroll Systems, how they work together and the downstream impact of data quality and accuracy
- Ability to effectively interact with senior management
