AT&T Natural Language Processing Software Engineer at Florham Park

Job Description

AT&T Labs Research is a world leader in the research and development of Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology. We are looking for a software engineer to take a leading role in the invention, architecting, development and ongoing advancement of an NLP framework and toolkit, exposing our leading-edge technology for AT&T services and for external customers.The position is in a group within our Research organization, in the Greater NY City Metro area, that enhances, extends, and productizes a range of Research technologies through the innovative application of software engineering. (Among other systems, the group is responsible for the WatsonSM speech engine.) The successful candidate will work closely with our experts in NLP, automatic speech recognition, machine translation, machine learning, and speech synthesis, to implement components and organize them into a framework; the resulting toolkit and APIs will be used both for our product systems and to support new research. The successful candidate must possess good communications skills and work well in a team setting. He/she must be comfortable working on complex projects with evolving objectives, and will be expected to be a proactive, independent problem solver and innovator. Required Qualifications:
  • Strong software skills, including C++ and Java
  • Knowledge of natural language processing algorithms and technology, as used in natural language understanding, machine translation, speech recognition, etc.
  • Experience with production software processes and tools
  • Masters or PhD in computer science or related field
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience wrapping algorithms as toolboxes or APIs
  • Fluency in scripting languages, in particular python
  • Experience using machine learning technology
  • The Principal Member of Technical Staff - Research position applies extensive technical expertise to new projects and develops technical solutions to complex problems that require the use of ingenuity and creativity.Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    Environmental Requirements: This position may be responsible for contributing to ATTs compliance with environmental laws and regulations as applicable to its job function. This may include, but is not limited to, work related to fuel tanks, emergency and stand-by generators, boilers, hazardous waste, hazardous materials, batteries, manholes and vaults, water wells, linear and other construction projects, water discharge, or air emissions.

    Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or Masters degree and 2 - 6 years of experience in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
  • 2 to 6 years of relevant experience including record of exceptional creativity and innovation in software, statistics, mathematics, tools, algorithms, concepts or technologies.
