Responsibilities:

SUMMARY:

The Marketing Associate performs various duties including outside commission sales, credit management, and consultative selling. Marketing Associates are expected to work varied hours in a defined sales territory. He/she is also expected to exercise independent judgment while engaging in personal customer service, development of new and existing accounts, and sales of company products as well as ongoing skills training

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs sales duties in the field on a daily basis including communicating with, meeting, and making presentations to present and prospective customers
  • Assembles, completes, and presents reports to customers and fellow employees
  • Attempts to sell to every profitable account in MAs territory
  • Develops a regular systematic daily call schedule
  • Demonstrates and samples products with present and prospective customers on a regular basis
  • Utilizes promotion sheets and flyers for account penetrations
  • Maintains accurate customer files
  • Completes new account form for each new customer
  • Collects accounts receivable in accordance with company policy
  • Develops monthly sales objectives
  • Maintains a high level of customer service including emergency deliveries, meeting deliveries truck
  • Maintains a positive company image
  • Communicates all business to DSM
  • Promptly submits all reports and requests for information from DSM
  • Maintains product manuals, sales manuals, price books, and laptop updates
  • Attends all mandatory sales meetings, training seminars, and product safety training
  • Reports collection issues to credit department immediately
  • Updates target account list monthly
  • Reports gain/loss of accounts immediately
  • Assists in training new personnel
  • Reports directly to DSM
  • Cooperates with customer service, accounts receivable, merchandizing, transportation, and other departments on work related matters
  • Works with company approved brokers and supplier representatives
  • Works with marketing specialists
  • Reads and retains sales books and business periodicals
  • Attains planned average days sales outstanding
  • Attains sales and gross profit dollar plans
  • Maintains planned profit margins
  • Attains planned average order size
  • Attains planned average gross profit per stop
  • Attains planned average pieces per stop
  • Maintains at least $3,000 per week in new profitable business

Job Requirements

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or the equivalent

PHYSICAL

  • Able to travel to/from and between customer accounts which may require the use of reliable personal transportation, walking, and/or access to public transportation depending on location
  • Able to lift and carry laptop and/or briefcase weighing between 5 and 30 pounds to Company and customer meetings, presentations, and sales calls
  • Able to lift and deliver product to customers
  • Able to transport sales/promotional materials and samples to customer locations typically weighing between 20-35 pounds

NON PHYSICAL

  • Must have a valid Class B license
  • Able to solicit customer accounts and introduce new sales items to customers
  • Able to maintain regular attendance
  • Sales and/or food service industry experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and technical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment
  • Knowledge of Company sales and customer related software
  • Immediately reports all accidents, DUI/DWIs, moving violations, license suspensions and revocations
  • Must maintain a current, valid state drivers license (where applicable)
  • Able to obtain automobile insurance with the corporate required minimum limits of $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident, and $100,000 for property damage.
