Clinical Director-Lindens Behavioral Stabilization Unit at Haddonfield

Job Description

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of an incumbent.

Position Summary:

Provides clinical direction to the program and ensures effective and efficient clinical processes. Directs and oversees all assessment activities and treatment planning for individuals supported. Directs and oversees the coordination of behavioral and other clinical programming for individuals supported. Ensures the quality of training and mentoring of staff on delivery of programming. Advocates on behalf of individuals supported.


Essential Responsibilities:

1. Provides supervision and oversight to direct and indirect reports within assigned areas of responsibility:

  • Provides ongoing leadership, advice, training, and guidance to clinical staff regarding the effective development and implementation of Individualized Service Plans (ISP) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), as needed, for individuals supported;
  • Ensures timeliness of the ISP process, including IDTs and monthly progress reports. Ensures the professionalism and completion of all documentation as required;
  • Monitors clinical resource availability and makes recommendations to fill unmet needs;
  • Conducts regular staff meetings and attends program management and director meetings to promote a constant flow of information, open discussions, knowledge sharing, and to ensure staff are well-informed;
  • Attends external conferences, family conferences, etc., to both obtain and share information;
  • Directly manages the ongoing job performance of direct reports; develops and communicates performance goals, completes performance evaluations within established timeframes; provides feedback, develops and takes action on performance improvement plans, and determines and implements disciplinary action as needed;
  • Appropriately delegates work responsibilities;
  • Supports the professional development and career growth of direct reports by identifying and providing ongoing training and certification attainment in accordance with state licensing regulations and any accreditation standards, as applicable within area of responsibility;
  • When applicable, ensures on-call and rotational support to effectively manage a 24 hour/7 day a week program for individuals supported.


2. Acts as a primary clinical resource for direct reports and an expert in applied behavior analysis and the assessment of challenging behaviors and adaptive living skills for the individuals supported.


3. Provides professional guidance and expertise to the organization by serving as an active member of the Behavior Management Committee as needed and assigned. Oversees proper presentation of behavior intervention plans and emergency restraint data for their Program to the Committee. Ensures that the Committee’s or reviewer’s recommendations are addressed by the IDT or Program. Completes out-of-committee reviews and observations, as assigned.


4. Oversees screening process of prospective individuals supported to determine ability of program to meet individual needs. Actively participates in the admission process and ensures effective transitioning to and from program.


5. If needed within programs, operates as QMRP or coordinates all activities related to the position, including management of emergency restraint (ER) data and entry into the database. Reviews and analyzes ER data and ensures its presentation to the Behavior Management Committee and develops action plans to address concerns.


6. Manages, oversees, and/or conducts functional behavior assessments, preference assessments, and treatment evaluations in accordance with the ISP to develop function-based interventions to increase adaptive skills and decrease problem behavior.


7. In conjunction with Behavior Analysts and/or Clinical Managers, oversees treatment integrity data collection and identifies training needs of program staff and ensures that training needs are met as it pertains to the effective implementation of behavior plans, ISP goals, and other clinical programming.


8. Directs and oversees the clinical operations and activities, and collaborates with the Operations Director to ensure proper staffing in accordance with levels of support, therapeutic needs, Annex A and program descriptions;


9. Follows established Bancroft policies and procedures, and maintains compliance with Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) regulations, Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, DDD Supported Employment/Day Program (SE/DP) Manual standards (if applicable), Department of Labor (DOL) regulations (if applicable), Department of Human Services 1047 regulations (if applicable), Joint Commission (if applicable), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards (if applicable), and other applicable state/local/federal regulations at all times:


10. Participates in the development and ongoing oversight of the annual financial operating budget, and monitors expenses related to the provision of clinical care. Ensures clinical services operate within the established fiscal budget.


11. Willingly and effectively cooperates with Bancroft, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), and other licensing or state agency or local municipalities in any inspections and investigations, upon request.


12. Actively participates in the development and implementation of performance improvement systems, risk management systems, for assigned Program sites to ensure quality care and continuous quality improvement. Responsible for the development and monitoring of Outcome Measurement Systems to track clinical quality and effectiveness.


13. Maintains effective communications with individuals supported, parents, guardians, other family members, healthcare personnel, colleagues, own manager and coworkers across Programs and functions, neighbors, surrounding communities, etc. Operates in accordance with the Confirmation of Understanding or Plan of Care for each individual supported regarding programs and treatment, healthcare, religious and sexual preferences (if applicable), ethnic and cultural support, recreational and socialization activities, physical fitness and healthy living, family visits and involvement, and disagreements and grievances within areas of responsibility.


14. Oversees the overall integrity of individual and/or medical records and files for individuals supported within areas of responsibility; i.e., files are complete, accurate, and up-to-date, for timely review by internal and external auditors, insurance companies, etc.


15. Ensures adherence to state-approved emergency procedures and Bancroft-approved safe and positive approaches techniques for each individual supported in assigned Program sites.


16. Serves as a role model to individuals supported by projecting a positive self-image of professionalism, appearance, courtesy, conduct, confidentiality, honesty, fairness, personal integrity, and a respect for the fundamental rights, dignity, and privacy of others.


17. Performs other related management and oversight duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in assignments.


18. Abides by the Bancroft Code of Ethics, Mission Statement, and Vision Statement in promoting ethical behavior, establishing relationships and providing guidance in decision-making situations.


19. Remains current with required trainings and certifications, meets state-regulated licensing and regulatory accreditations, and adheres to mandatory requirements.


20. Maintains effective verbal and written communications with colleagues, those served, and their family members and/or guardians when applicable.


21. Willingly and effectively cooperates with Bancroft, The Department of Human Services, The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), and other licensing or state agency or local municipalities in any inspections and investigations, upon request.


22. Maintains a safe and respectful environment, free of abuse, neglect, or exploitation; does not allow weapons, threats, bullying or intimidation.


23. Reports any violations to the appropriate individual as soon as the incident occurs.


24. Maintains levels of supervision as defined in behavior plans; e.g., Individual Program Plan (IPP), Individual Rehabilitation Plan (IRP), Individual Education Plan (IEP), Individual Service Plan (ISP), etc., when applicable.


25. Demonstrates Bancroft’s core values of Respect in the performance of position responsibilities.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:

Master’s degree in Psychology or a related field plus a minimum of two years of supervisory experience required. PhD in a related discipline desirable. Prior training and experience in applied behavior analysis and functional behavior assessment and certification by the BACB required.


Special Skills:

Proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form required. Effective and proven leadership and management skills required, as well as flexibility and adaptability. Basic math skills required. Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, a strong desire to work with neurologically-challenged individuals required, and the ability to implement crisis intervention techniques required. Operative knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel spreadsheets preferred. Attainment of CPR, First Aid, Crisis Prevention and Intervention, and Medication certification within first 90 days of employment required. Valid driver’s license required in incumbent’s legal name and current address with no provisional restrictions. Minimum 18 years of age required.

An incumbent in this position who has graduated from an accredited college with a Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech/Language Pathology, Social Work, Recreation, Art, Dance, Music, Physical Education, Nutrition, Sociology, Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology or related Human Services field of study AND possesses at least one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or brain injuries may function as a Qualified Mental Retardation Professional (QMRP).
