Position Summary: Position Summary:
The Technical Support Specialist (SCAD/DCS) provides support to the Davis International Center, Survey Research Center and Pace Center for Civic Engagement staff. This is a (90%) position reporting to the Directors of the Davis International Center 50% (2.5 days per week), Survey Research Center 20% (1 day per week) and Pace Center for Civic Engagement (1 day per week). The Davis International Center, Survey Research Center and Pace Center, computing platform consists of desktop workstations, laptops both Mac OSX and PC and a variety of other computing equipment such as iPad, Surface, iPhone, tablets, Androids The SCAD/DCS will provide technical support and will also be responsible for Web design and maintenance in each department.
Principles Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintenance and repair of desktops & departmental laptops
Maintain and troubleshooting departments Listserv lists and processes
Support of Windows, Mac operating systems and Windows Server
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair computing related issues/questions posed by staff
Support for all office productivity applications - Photoshop, Acrobat, Microsoft Office - Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Exchange, Outlook, Entourage, University Business Applications, and in-house applications
Configuration and maintenance of back-up software on all desktop-computing systems
Educate/train staff on proper computing techniques including use of office databases and online applications and web surveys.
Provide guidance for staff on their computing purchases; install and configure all new desktop computer systems (PC, Mac, and laptops), printers, scanners, tablets, mobile devices, iPhones, iPad, Andriods, and other computing related devices
Set up links and maintain pathways from office to home computers for VPN/Sonic Wall to desktop computers
Support Web survey, intranet, wiki and calendaring applications
Assist with Web design and maintain website for the Davis International Center, Survey Research Center and Pace Center website currently in Roxen and also in Drupal Content Management System.
Coordinate data integration and develop effective information systems for use by Centers
Primary liaison to OIT for technical issues.
Act as first tier support to troubleshoot and resolve applications problems
Create database-driven web resources (including non-SEVIS visitor tracking and international alumni databases)
Implement technology-based projects and automate business procedures by involving technology-based solutions to replace manual procedures
Review business processes, analyze existing procedures and develop new processes and procedures relating to business needs
Develop training materials on the effective use of databases, including development of materials and documentation of business processes
Attend monthly SCAD/DCS meetings, training and participate other related SCAD/DCS forums
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Extensive knowledge of Content Management System (Roxen and Drupal CMS system)
Knowledge of PHP MySQL, XMTL, DHTML, HTML, and CSS, Photoshop
Knowledge of MS SQL client/server, such as protocol and official port numbers that are
being used
Knowledge of supporting Windows Server and Virtual Server
Concept and understanding of network and firewall filtration
Knowledge of OnBase and Sharepoint 2010
Significant experience in administration, maintenance, and support of the following
operating systems: Windows, Mac and windows Server
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team
Attention to detail
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build good working relationships with people of diverse personalities and professional backgrounds, with a strong focus on customer service
Ability to research hardware and software issues in a thorough manner
Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, anticipate and address problems and delays
Ability to follow up on open items and complete tasks in a timely manner
Flexibility in adjusting work schedule to accommodate priority needs, downtime and system emergencies
Ability to work independently and self-motivate
Experience in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and using standard systems and software applications: Exchange, Office Suite (including Outlook), and other Windows based systems and devices
Strong knowledge of Web Design and maintenance
Strong understanding of MYSQL databases and relational database
Initiative, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously are essential
The ability to keep abreast of new technologies including computer software and hardware, smart phones, and peripheral devices is a must for this position
The desire and ability to learn and utilize new technologies easily
Must be able to lift 50 lbs., twist bend and work in awkward positions
Qualifications:
A bachelors degree or equivalent relevant experience, with experience in a university setting a plus
