Position Summary: The payroll specialist oversees the processing of payroll data including the audit, quality control, and recording for the bi-weekly payroll (and backup for monthly).The specialist performs activities that support measuring key performance indicators and implementing continuous process improvement. This includes monitoring periodic changes and performing quality assurance of data loaded by interfacing systems, monitoring control reports, audit queries, and reconciling payroll gross to net amount.The payroll specialist interacts with external departments to evaluate requests for compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements. The position supports the resolution of data and process issues across various systems, including coordination of activities between the payroll and technical teams.The position may include providing support to the Universitys non-resident alien population. The position is responsible for executing controls for payments in excess of $500 million annually to 13,500 employees and students. The payroll specialist also supports the Universitys non-resident alien student and faculty population who has unique taxation needs. The payroll specialist works closely with all levels of management across the academic and administrative human resource teams, along with the Davis International Center. The position also collaborates with various teams across the Finance and Technology departments to ensure the effectiveness of the various integrated systems. The specialist plays an important role assisting in testing of the payroll system and other systems. Primary duties include: Preparing garnishments, gross-ups, additional pays, and various inputs for payroll processing. Oversee and audit monthly, bi-weekly, off cycle and supplemental payrolls; manage the escalation of complex payroll issues; recommend and prepare adjustments required to resolve issues; request ad-hoc queries and reports to assist with researching and resolving issues. Ensuring data is transmitted thoroughly and accurately between PeopleSoft and other integrated systems including Time Collection, Labor Accounting, Student Accounts (student billings), PeopleSoft General Ledger, and other applications. Other duties include processing union dues, tax data, payroll checks and W-2s. Identifying process/system/procedural enhancements collect and analyze data to report on progress against key performance indicators. Establishing and maintaining process documentation.

Job Requirements

Position Requires: Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience 2-4 years related experience Experience using an HRMS-Payroll application Strong customer focus, problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools: Excel, Word and PowerPoint
