Position Summary
The credit analyst is responsible for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of applicant requests for loans and lines of credit. The incumbent will assess collateral values and credit risk, and prepare written credit-approval packages or denial correspondence.
Essential Functions
- Analyze customer financial condition and authorize customer credit lines .
- Minimize bad debt risk by establishing appropriate credit limits or denying lines of credit.
- Analyze paying habits of customers who are delinquent in payment of bills and recommends action.
- Reviews files to select delinquent accounts for collection efforts.
- Effectively secure prompt payment from customers while employing commercial sensitivity, business acumen, and good judgment.
- Evaluates customer records and recommends that account be closed, credit limit reduced or extended, or collection attempted, based on earnings and savings data, payment history, and purchase activity of customer.
- Confers with representatives of credit associations and other businesses to exchange information concerning credit ratings and forwarding addresses.
- Interviews customers in person or by telephone to investigate complaints, verify accuracy of charges, or to correct errors in accounts.
- Conduct collection calls and customer visits
- Negotiate customer disputes to resolution and documents root cause.
- Provide customer service and develops relationships with internal/external customers and suppliers.
- Maintain accurate credit files and collection files.
- Participate in major department projects and take an active role in cross-functional teams to assist in driving quality improvements, processes, and initiatives.
- Actively participates in and communicates with members of the credit administration department.
- Complete loan write-ups for new loans and renewals.
- Order reports such as Credit Bureau reports, appraisals, environmental reports, and D&B’s.
- Complete loan reviews.
- Complete memos for changes in approvals and other pertinent issues.
- Assist credit administrative assistant in the completion and issuance of commitment letters.
- Assist with loan packages from the time it enters underwriting until the file is complete and sent to the closing department.
- Make a credit recommendation based on credit findings.
Additional Functions
- Participate in process improvement projects.
- Support other management directives as prescribed.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business or related field. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional, related experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Three - five years’ experience in a financial institution’s commercial loan department.

Knowledge Requirements
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements, collateral, cashflow, projections, personal financial statements, tax returns, and varying balance sheet and income statement ratios.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from groups of managers, employees, vendors, government agents, and the general public; ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Very high reasoning skills; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Intermediate understanding of principal credit underwriting concepts.
- General understanding of accounting and economic principals.
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Ability to use standard office equipment such as telephone, computer keyboard, copier, fax, calculator, LCD projector and screen.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for long periods of time up to 75% of work hours.
- Ability to use hands to grasp, handle, or feel.
- Ability to talk, listen, and see.
Working Conditions
- Moderate sound as in business office with office machines, computers and people traffic.
