Position Responsibilities

The Principal Engineer is responsible for engineering of video transmission platforms for the delivery of video content service offering and advertising Services. The position requires engineering of new Ad Insertion and Content Delivery projects as well as capacity management of existing platforms. The position requires involvement throughout the life cycle of an advertising project and Content Delivery services. This involves interacting with and leading cross functional team (CFT) members as well as product vendors, provide executive level presentations, and become subject matter expert. The engineer will need to utilize Verizon internal engineering systems including CCP and VEDS. The engineer will need to stay abreast of upcoming funded projects, coordinate with Network Planning for the purposes of detailed engineering of projects, and work with Video Operations and vendors on project implementation. The position will require issuance of work orders and overseeing implementations based on network plans and capacity growth requirements. Manage network capacity and develop capacity management processes that initiate additional capacity for video network components. Develop and issue network engineering guidelines for capacity management and to ensure network integrity. Utilize engineering expertise and skills to work with the various groups to design the End to End solutions. Participate and represent VNE in RGS/BRD sessions for new initiatives. Assist with the management of capital and expense budgets associated with video deployments. Review video construction projects and their capital costs for validation of alignment with approved guidelines and the capital program.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor degree in engineering or computer science preferred, or a related technical field or equivalent work experience
• 5 to 10 years of experience in Engineering/Planning, OSP/CO/Network Planning, Operations/Technical Support, Video Technology, Data Communications and Network Protocols, or previous Content Distribution Network engineering
• Strong analytical skills
• Self-motivated

Desired Skills and Experiences

• Knowledge of Verizon FiOS Video Network (SHE, VHO, VSO)
• Graduate Degree: MS degree (Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, etc.) preferred
• Expertise in data communications network protocols (e.g., HTTP, HLS, RTMP, ATM, TCP/IP, SONET, MPLS, UDP/IP, H.264, Multicasting, Streaming, etc.)
• Experience with high speed data network architectures and network elements (Gigabit Ethernet, IP, LAN Technologies, Routers, etc.)
• Understanding of various storage architecture (Isilon, NetApp)
• Familiar with Video Transformation CODECS, Conditional Access Systems, or Digital Rights Management
