Job Description:
The purpose of this role is to assist in leading, managing and guiding the lean manufacturing evolution. This role integrates with the Deluxe Lean Enterprise System to develop and deploy lean knowledge, culture, principles, tools and techniques across the corporation. The Lean Enterprise Engineer defines and supports Lean strategy and associated continuous improvement programs, structures, and activities (TPM, work teams, just-in-time, built-in-quality, continuous improvement).
Accountabilities:
- Responsible for leading the Lean Enterprise integration and deployment at the plant level.
- Support, track, assess and report progress on the implementation and use of lean manufacturing techniques within the plant.
- Identify and share best practices from inside and outside the plant with other plants and with Group and Corporate Lean Manufacturing personnel.
- Develop strategy for implementation of Lean Enterprise with senior management teams at designated job site(s).
- Evaluate and prioritize needs based on input from various groups of stakeholders within the organization.
- Coordinate and initiate lean projects with the production and associated shared support functions.
- Create and maintain a Lean toolkit that can include: 5S, Kaizen, quick change over, valuestream mapping, mistake proofing and line balancing.
- Develop and facilitate joint projects with customers and suppliers as needed to support key product-based value streams.
- Assist employees at all levels with implementation of all elements of the Lean Enterprise. This includes strong technical direction as well as providing resource and organizational support when needed. Facilitate leaning activities (kaizen blitzes, action plan reviews) within the plants.
- Provide strong participation and coordination with the Deluxe Lean Enterprise System. Includes the involvement in training, sharing best practices with other company businesses and participation on focus groups that results in sustaining a position as a leading implementer of Lean Enterprise.
- Proven ability to drive (cultural) change; challenges the status quo and looks for ways to improve team and organizational performance; champions new initiatives and stimulates others to make changes.
- Proven ability to analyze problems and make decisions effectively analyzes issues and makes sound, logical business decisions in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated experience in Lean techniques, including VSM and planning & executing successful Kaizen events.
- Strong achievement orientation; demonstrates strong personal drive, initiative and persistence; is motivated by challenges and determined in the face of setbacks.
- Responsible for supporting site level spoilage objectives, data collection of spoilage, track results weekly and communicate weekly results
Required:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
- 6+ years successful manufacturing experience driving continuous process improvements
- Demonstrated experience in Lean techniques, including VSM and planning & executing successful Kaizen events
- Training and effective utilization of Lean methodologies
- Strong interpersonal skills; develops and maintains effective working relationships with a diverse spectrum of people/customers (ex. leadership, peers, internal an external customers); conveys respect for others perspectives and contributions
- Strong achievement orientation; demonstrates strong personal drive, initiative and persistence; is motivated by challenges and determined in the face of setbacks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred:
- Degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering
- Six Sigma training and/or experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with people at all levels within the organization
- Ability to deal effectively with a diverse group of users
- Must be comfortable with new and changing technologies
- Must be comfortable with presentations and speaking to groups of people
- Must possess strong decision making skills with ability to work effectively with ambiguity
- Must possess, and be able to apply, broad knowledge of principles and practices within graphic arts or printing technology
- Self motivated to work on and complete projects with minimal guidance
