Job Description

External Consumer Lending OfficerPurpose
Under the direction of the Lending Sales Manager, provide “whatever it takes" service as they solicit, market, and process consumer loan applications, ancillary products and other credit union services to the community and add new members to the credit union through the selling of consumer loan products Outside sales strategies will be deployed into the branch and or branches surrounding community to grow UTF’s lending program by promoting it to local businesses and their customers.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adhere to sales code of ethics
  • Consistently achieve or exceed performance goals
  • Comply with established corporate and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Regularly rehearse sales and loan skills during practice and coaching sessions
  • Utilize telephone to assess and qualify loan applicants for products and to obtain share of wallet using various relationship building tools and approaches
  • Cross-sell all credit union services (home banking, direct deposit, bill payer, etc.)
  • Gather information necessary to structure a performing loan application
  • Work with underwriter to obtain a loan approval or counter offer that meets customer needs while protecting the credit union
  • Maintain a proficient knowledge of all credit union products and services as well as industry trends and benchmarks, and products and services offered by the competition
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

External Consumer Lending OfficerRequirements
  • Minimum of two year of experience originating first mortgage and consumer loan products
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Motivated to exceed goals in a customer needs based selling culture
  • Must be able to develop new business through outside sales activities
  • Must be professional in appearance, upbeat, energetic, dependable, take initiative, and take pride in work
  • Strong commitment to provide excellent customer service with a “whatever it takes" attitude
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems

  • Working knowledge of “money and banking’ concepts
  • Proficient in use of sales process and relationship building techniques
  • Knowledge of fraud prevention and detection procedures, as well as internal control and risk mitigation techniques
  • Ability to work at other branches as needed
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws/regulatory requirements as related to functional areas including Truth in Lending, Reg B, Reg Z, and Bank Secrecy Act
  • Ability to work various hours based on business needs, including Saturdays and some evenings
