Business Systems Analyst
Location: Hightstown, NJ
Contract: 07/29/2013 to 12/27/2013

Serves as a liaison between the business community and the IT organization in order to provide technical solutions to meet user needs. Possesses expertise in the business unit(s) they support, as well as, an understanding of the IT organization?s systems and capabilities. Analyzes business partner?s operations to understand their strengths and weaknesses to determine opportunities to automate processes and functions. Assists in the business process redesign and documentation as needed for new technology. Translates high level business requirements into functional specifications for the IT organization and manages changes to such specifications. Educates the IT organization on the direction of the business. Negotiates agreements and commitments by facilitating communication between business unit(s) and IT from initial requirements to final implementation. Possesses an understanding of technological trends and uses this knowledge to bring solutions to business units supported to enhance the enterprise?s competitive edge. May make recommendations for buy versus build decision. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience. Typically has Minimum of 5 years of experience in Information Technology.

Position Summary:
Review, analyze, and evaluate business systems and user needs. Identify and document requirements, define scope and objectives, and identify system modifications needed to support business requirements and initiatives. Follow defined departmental standards and help define new ones as appropriate. Perform a variety of tasks, including business user coordination on IT related activities and projects, and end user support. Provide status of issues as requested by department management. Escalates issues as appropriate. Administers Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications. Additional responsibilities include those related to application support, training, and system documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Business users on data center transformation activities to confirm (and document accordingly) Business Processes, System Topologies, develop Functional Specifications. As necessary, serve as liaison between the customer and the Transition Team, and as part of such, communicate difficult concepts and processes. Work with vendors and contractors to define detailed technical requirements
  • Conduct Application owner and Business User interviews to identify system functions and dependencies
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging the applications
  • Consult on complex business issues and design considerations
  • Responsible for the identification and documentation of system requirements to enable the Technical Team to deliver the appropriate solution for successful transformation
  • Oversee the development and execution of the user acceptance test plans, as well as schedule testing
  • Create new documentation and processes as needed to help refine, optimize, and/or to establish system functions and processes

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Technology preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Information Technology

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Experience interviewing end users to gather requirements
  • Knowledge of the SDLC
  • Experience building reports
  • Expert-level proficiency in the following:
    • Network concepts including LAN/WAN architectures
    • Microsoft Visio
    • Systems Development/Integration Fundamentals
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel)
  • Ability to learn and understand various systems and databases
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism in all internal and external interactions
  • Ability to analyze situations and challenges in a systematic, logical approach
  • Ability to analyze data points extracted by automated and manual discovery processes
  • Intermediate-level proficiency in the following:
    • Microsoft Project
    • Multiple Relational Databases including Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL
    • Java Development
    • CRM System Fundamentals
    • Internet and Client Server Architectures
